How to measure

Where the tape goes

Three of the four measurements are taken on your body. Watch where the tape sits, then check your numbers against the chart below.

01 / Bust

Around the fullest part

Level front to back. This one decides your top size.

02 / Waist

Around the smallest part

Usually just above the navel, where your side creases when you bend.

03 / Hip

Around the fullest part

Feet together, roughly 8 inches below the waist. This decides your pant size.

01 / Chest

Under the arms and across the shoulder blades. This one decides your top size.

04 / Inseam

Measured flat, not worn

Take a pair of pants you already like the length of, lay them flat, and measure from the crotch seam down the inside leg to the bottom edge.

Four things that decide whether the tape is telling the truth

  1. Wear what you would wear under scrubs

An unpadded bra or a thin fitted top.A thin fitted t-shirt, or bare skin. Measuring over a hoodie adds inches you will regret.

  2. Keep the tape level at the back

Check it in a mirror. If the tape rides up between your shoulder blades or across your lower back, the number comes out short.

  3. Snug, not tight

You should be able to slide one finger under the tape. Pulling it tight is the single most common reason a top arrives smaller than expected.

  4. Breathe out, then read it

Stand relaxed with your arms down and breathe normally. Take the reading where the tape meets, and write it down before you let go.

Tops fit true to size. Pants are cut close through the hip and seat, so if you are between sizes on the hip, size up.

Tops

True to size

Take your usual size. If your bustchest measurement lands between two sizes, go with the larger one.

Pants

Cut close through the hip and seat

If you are between sizes on the hip, size up. The waist has a drawcord and will take up the slack, the hip will not.
